ABOUT KOH HEY
Known as Koh Hey in Thai, Coral Island owes its English name to the Coral Island Resort, located on the island. Of course, the island does have some coral off its shore, with good spots for diving and snorkeling. Snorkeling here is well suited to beginners and children, as you can swim from the beach out to the shallow reef.
The island of Ko Hey officially belongs to famous Phuket, so it shares the long history and stunning beauty of the main island.
Phuket is one of the provinces of southern Thailand and is made up of the country's largest island, Phuket, and 32 smaller islands around it, including Ko Hey. The province covers an area of 576 km² and was once the main trade route between India and China; it also appeared frequently in the logbooks of foreign ships because of its unique location in the Andaman Sea.
Throughout its history, the island was an important place in times of war, so it went through many changes. Between the 16th and 18th centuries it was explored by Europeans, who called it “Junk Ceylon” on their maps. During that period, the island also fell into decline because of pirates and an unpredictable sea, and it was invaded by the Burmese in 1785.
Today, despite the many changes and damage suffered in the past, the islands of Phuket, including Ko Hey, are still so stunning that they attract large numbers of tourists every year.
