WAT PANAN CHOENG

This monastery located south of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya has no records about its date of construction or the person who caused it. It existed before Ayutthaya was founded as the capital. The main image in the Wihan called "Phrachao Phananchoeng" was built in 1325 A.D.; it is made of stucco in the attitude of subduing evil; considered beautiful, it is venerated by the inhabitants of Ayutthaya.

WAT YAI CHAIMONGKOL

This monastery built in the reign of King U-Thong is located outside the city to the southeast, in the same direction as the train station; its large pagoda can be seen from afar. King Naresuan the Great ordered the pagoda to be built to celebrate the victory of his solo horseback combat. He also planned a huge construction to match the great pagoda of Wat Phukhao Thong, and called it "Phra Chedi Chaiyamongkhon".
