WAT PANAN CHOENG
This monastery located south of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya has no records about its date of construction or the person who caused it. It existed before Ayutthaya was founded as the capital. The main image in the Wihan called "Phrachao Phananchoeng" was built in 1325 A.D.; it is made of stucco in the attitude of subduing evil; considered beautiful, it is venerated by the inhabitants of Ayutthaya.

WAT YAI CHAIMONGKOL
This monastery built in the reign of King U-Thong is located outside the city to the southeast, in the same direction as the train station; its large pagoda can be seen from afar. King Naresuan the Great ordered the pagoda to be built to celebrate the victory of his solo horseback combat. He also planned a huge construction to match the great pagoda of Wat Phukhao Thong, and called it "Phra Chedi Chaiyamongkhon".

WAT MAHATHAT
Royal Templeof the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. It is one of the oldest and most significant temples in the history of Ayutthaya, as it housed the sacred relic of Buddha. Many important royal ceremonies of the Ayutthaya era were held here.

WAT PHRA SRI SANPHET
In the heyday of Ayutthaya, this was the largest temple in the city. The three main chedis, which have been restored, contain the ashes of three kings of Ayutthaya. The temple is located at the northern end of Si Sanphet Road. The royal chapel has no monks or novice inhabitants.

WAT CHAIWATTHANARAM
