GREAT ROYAL PALACE
In 1782, the new King decided to move the capital to the left bank of the Chao Phraya River for strategic reasons and used the canals to the west as defenses for the new city. A palace was built whose grounds now cover an area of 218,000 square meters that are surrounded by crenellated walls measuring 19,000 meters. Similar to the palaces of the ancient capitals of Sukhothai and Ayudhaya, this palace is also designed with Residence Halls and Throne Rooms, as well as administrative buildings and a temple that serves as the Royal Chapel.
WAT PHO
It is a first class Royal Temple and is an ancient temple that King Rama I the Great ordered to be built for the monks to study the Dharma. This is the temple of the reign of King Rama I the Great. During the reign of King Rama III, the king kindly renovated Wat Pho and brought academic texts in different fields to be inscribed around the temple in order to spread knowledge among the people. It is considered the first university in Thailand. In addition, Wat Pho has a large reclining Buddha image that was built during the reign of King Rama III, made of masonry, mortar and covered with gold. It has a length of 46 meters and a height of 15 meters. On the floor of each foot, there are 108 auspicious images decorated with pearls, which is a characteristic of a great man according to Indian principles.
